  5. Account access

This access is for your Community Manager Agent, your Paid Search Agent and your Growth Hacking Agent. They run your LinkedIn Page and steer your campaigns to reach the right professionals. You never hand over your password. You appoint a person as an admin of your Page, and you remove that role whenever you decide. There is one small condition to know about before you start, LinkedIn only lets you appoint someone who is in your network. We sort it in 2 minutes in step 1. Allow 10 minutes in total, on a computer.

  • Step 1 · First, sort out the condition LinkedIn imposes
  • Step 2 · Open your Page in admin view
  • Step 3 · Open the admin management screen
  • Step 4 · Add the person and choose their role
  • Step 5 · Open up access to the ad campaigns as well
  • Step 6 · Check it, then stay in control
  • Step 7 · If you do not have a LinkedIn Page yet
Step 1

First, sort out the condition LinkedIn imposes

This is the one point that wastes time when you do not know about it, so we deal with it straight away.

LinkedIn only lets you appoint as admin a person who meets 2 conditions.

  • They are in your network, as a 1st, 2nd or 3rd degree connection.
  • They already follow your company Page.

So, in 2 minutes. Send a connection invitation to your contact here, and let us know by message that the Page is ready. We will follow your Page straight away. Their name will then appear in the search box in step 3.

If you skip this step, the search will stay empty and you will think something is broken. Nothing is, it is simply this setting.

Open LinkedIn ↗
Step 2

Open your Page in admin view

Sign in at linkedin.com with your account, on a computer ideally.

Click your photo at the top right. Under the Manage section, you see the Page or Pages you administer. Click yours.

You land on the super admin view of your Page, the one your visitors never see. You recognise it by its vertical menu, on the left.

  • If you can see that left hand menu, perfect, carry on.
  • If you only have a personal profile and no Page, start by creating a LinkedIn Company Page. It is free and it takes 10 minutes.
Open LinkedIn ↗
Step 3

Open the admin management screen

In the left hand menu, click Settings, then Manage admins.

A screen opens with 2 tabs.

  • Page admins, for everything to do with the Page itself, the posts, the events, the statistics.
  • Paid media admins, reserved for advertising. We come back to it in step 5.

Stay on the first tab. There you see the list of people who already manage the Page, with you at the top.

⚠ The labels change. LinkedIn renames its screens several times a year, and this screen has already been called Admin tools. If Settings no longer appears under that name, look for the word admin in the left hand menu, the feature is always there.

Step 4

Add the person and choose their role

Click the Add admin button.

  • In the Search for a member field, type the name of your contact at Metabacklinks, the one we will have given you. Select them from the list that appears.
  • Choose their role. Super admin so that we are fully self sufficient, or Content admin if you prefer to limit us to publishing.
  • Confirm with the Save button.

The 3 roles, in 1 sentence each.

  • Super admin, can do everything, edit the Page and manage the other admins. This is the one we recommend, it saves us coming back to you for every setting.
  • Content admin, publishes and manages posts and events, without touching the Page information.
  • Analyst, views the statistics only.

A person can only hold 1 Page role at a time. If you change your mind, you replace the role from that same list, without deleting anything.

Access is live straight away, there is no invitation to accept.

Step 5

Open up access to the ad campaigns as well

LinkedIn advertising lives in a separate space, Campaign Manager. The role you have just given on the Page does not open that door, it is a different one.

The direct link. linkedin.com/campaignmanager/accounts shows your ad accounts.

  • Click the name of your ad account, at the top left, to select the right one.
  • Open the account settings, then Manage access.
  • Click Add user, enter your contact's name or the address of their LinkedIn profile, then choose their role.

The 4 advertising roles, from the most limited to the broadest.

  • Viewer, looks at performance, changes nothing.
  • Creative manager, creates and edits the ads.
  • Campaign manager, creates and edits whole campaigns.
  • Account manager, does everything above and manages access. That is the one we need to run your campaigns end to end.

Your payment method stays with you. The advertising role gives control over the campaigns, not over your billing, which depends on a separate billing admin.

If you do not have an ad account yet, that is not a worry, Campaign Manager offers to create one on your first visit.

Open Campaign Manager ↗
Step 6

Check it, then stay in control

Go back to Settings, then Manage admins. The name you have just added now appears in the list, with its role beside it.

That is all, there is nothing else to do.

To remove an access one day. You come back to this same screen, you click the small menu to the right of the line, then Remove. Access is cut immediately. Your Page, your followers and your posts stay intact.

The one setting to keep for yourself. Always stay a super admin of your own Page, and never be the only one. Add a business partner or someone close you trust alongside us. The day you are unreachable, somebody can take over without going through LinkedIn support.

Once access is open, there are 4 settings to check before you launch anything, because they are switched on by default and they spend off target. They are detailed in our article on the settings that burn a LinkedIn Ads budget.

Step 7

If you do not have a LinkedIn Page yet

These instructions assume your Page already exists. If it does not, start there.

Create a LinkedIn Company Page, in 10 minutes on a computer. You will find the direct link to the form, the 5 conditions LinkedIn checks on your profile before it lets you create the Page, the logo format constraint, and the honest word on what a Page really brings you.

Then come back here to give us access.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

No, never. You appoint a person as an admin of your Page, from your own account. That person then works with their own account. We have no access to your personal profile, only to your company Page.
No. A role on the company Page gives no access to your personal inbox, nor to your private contacts, nor to what you post from your profile. Your profile stays entirely yours.
That is the most common case, and it always has the same cause. LinkedIn only suggests members who are in your network and who already follow your Page. Send your contact a connection invitation first, ask them to follow your Page, and the name will then appear in the list.
A person. An admin role is always given to a named LinkedIn member, never to a company Page. That is what lets you see exactly who did what on your Page.
A Super admin can do everything, including adding and removing other admins. A Content admin publishes and manages posts and events. An Analyst only views the statistics. On top of that there is a separate tab for paid media roles, for advertising.
You can, but the app folds several menus away and the admin screen is hard to find there. On a computer, everything fits on a single page. Allow 10 minutes on a computer, against twice that on a phone.
That is common, and it is not a problem. The company Page is different from the personal profile, it carries the name of the business. You need to create it first, it is free and it takes 10 minutes. Our creation guide is made for that.
That is handled in a separate space, Campaign Manager, with its own roles. The principle stays the same, you add a person, you do not lend a password. That is what step 5 covers.
From the same screen you used to give it. You open the list of admins, you click the small menu to the right of the line, then Remove. It is immediate, and you owe nobody an explanation.
